Daily Reading 25. Swamiji advises on Mind Management.

Taken from Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Excerpt from a Book by Swami Nikhilananda Puri – a direct disciple of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi]: As the mind becomes purified, you must meditate on Brahman or OM. A knower of Brahman becomes Brahman.
Swamiji: OM is immortal, fearless. Meditate on OM and you will become immortal, fearless.
Devotee: What can I meditate on?
Swamiji: Shanti shanti shanti. And because Gurudev [Swami Nischalananda Puri, Swamiji’s beloved guru] used to say it three times, I repeat it three times. I used to meditate on peace. Do this and peace will permeate the whole universe. Walking, talking, sitting – think about peace.
Gurudev said it was good to hear the Upanishads even if you do not understand them. In your hours of relaxation, you will understand them.
Do not let the mind run. You cannot look after anybody. God looks after everybody.
When I came here [to the Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa] and put Mother Kali’s photo in my shrine, some people would not enter there.
An excerpt from Meditation and Spiritual Life, by Swami Yatiswarananda: We can run after sense pleasures or after God and divine bliss. The Divine is in us and works through us. When we know this, our whole attitude changes. Religion is the eternal relationship of the eternal soul with the eternal God. Love for God is not blind; it is based on a higher form of intuition.
Swamiji: You must have experienced this to base it on this.
Reading: As we become pure in mind, we become aware of our divine nature. We go beyond the lower nature.
Swamiji: This does not happen suddenly. We must do it slowly.
Reading: Through one-pointed devotion all desires are burned away.
Swamiji: Then we’ll want God and God alone.

These recordings or the excerpts from them, were made from the early 1970s onward, by Mother Radha, a close devotee of Swamiji’s and edited for uploading here by our gurubhai and her son, Brother Tim.
