Swami Shivapadananda on managing irritability
DAILY READINGS
Taken from Mother Radha’s
notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Day 290
Leave other people
to do what they like, how they like. It is their business. Not only this,
but have no gossip. If someone gossips to you rather say, ‘Look brother,
tell me some good about that person, or talk about God.’ We are here to learn
to love. This is the job of sadhana [spiritual practice] – to practise loving.
With love you attain all.
All must suffer.
Put up with it.
If someone praises
me, I think: ‘O Ma [Divine Mother], this is for you.’ You must see Her in all
the practices, all the time. Think: ‘This is your body Ma. I am not the doer, I
am pure Spirit. These are your feet, your hands, your eyes, Ma.’
Meditation must
happen if you keep on purifying and discriminating.
You get irritated?
That is not loving, something is wrong. Look inside and see what is wrong. Be
fed up with Mother. Say to Her, ‘Ma, this is all you, in the mask of jealousy,
hatred and so on. But I do not want you in this way, Ma. I see through you. You
keep it, you take it. Bring me to the other side, Ma.’
When you become a
sannyasi [monk or nun – sannyasini] what do you want? Nothing. Do you want
heaven? Hell? Powers? No, nothing. When you get powers and begin to use them,
for example, reading the thoughts of others, making people come to see you, and
so on, you lose everything. Throw those things out.
