Swami Shivapadananda on ‘going inside’ in meditation
DAILY READINGS
Taken from Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Day 346
All is God’s. There is no division. If you get something, it is from Him. If you give something, it is from Him. Even if you are forced to give, give it to Him.
If the world pulls you down, go back inside [into a meditative, introspective state].
I hope these words will ring in your head when I am gone, that you do not forget them. Remember the story of the porridge.
The sage [Wise One] tells me something, I know it is true and I add to it bit by bit. As you go inside more and more, so the Truth will be revealed to you, and many other things, and you will begin to open up.
You do not know the Truth now, you just have glimpses of it, this is encouragement.
Your purity is only for the good of the guru.
If the guru is not here, you are sad; if the guru is here, you are happy. When the guru leaves the body [i.e. passes on], what then?
Sometimes when you want the guru urgently he is there, but when you are back in the world the urgency is gone. That is why you must keep going inside, must keep doing japa [repetition of the mantra or God’s names], must keep rolling the beads [of the rosary or mala]. All this helps us to be aware, to seek diligently.
Lying and stealing are selfishness.
If someone behaves strangely it is not your business. Look behind and see God. See It. God is in all, is all.
