Swami Shivapadananda on Guru-Chela [disciple] relationship
DAILY READINGS
Taken from Mother Radha’s
notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Day 342
God speaks all the time but when the mind is active, we cannot hear Him.
When the mind is still we hear Him all the time.
Do not get too close to the guru otherwise you cannot see your own path.
We need obedience, humility, surrender, purification. There is no
separate existence from the guru, always think you are part of him, linked with
him. Make yourself empty so that the guru’s power enters your heart and mind.
A spiritual man radiates spiritual fragrance, which permeates and
cleanses the air.
A guru reaches people though dreams, sleep, silence, but not unless and
until you allow yourself to receive him. How? By making the mind vacant, by sitting
quietly and meditating.
Do whatever the guru asks. See it as divine and do it.
The guru-disciple [guru-chela] relationship is very complex. It is [both] human and
impersonal. Guru is the father, mother, lover, friend, master. With the guru
all these coalesce into one and he becomes the centre of all your emotions.
From time to time check which nostril you are breathing out of. Do this
by breathing on to the palm of your hand. If it is more from the right nostril,
it is okay, if from the left, not so good.
Rely on yourself, not me.
Realise [God, the Self] now. Why wait? Sing till the concentration comes, then meditate.
Think of God all the time.
