Swami Shivapadananda on the Guru’s suffering
DAILY READINGS
Taken from
Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Day 361
The expression, ‘the guru’s lotus feet,’ indicates
that his feet are like the lotus, [floating] above the mud, untainted.
Look at the tapasya [austerity, self-denial] the guru
did. Every time you do wrong, you drive a nail into him. He does not mind, what
can he do? He has to carry the burden.
It says in the Bhagavad Gita: ‘Out of thousands of
yogis, one perchance recognises Me.’ Gurus are plenty but chelas [disciples] are
few.
Never go to the guru empty handed. He does not need
what you take him, but because you go to him, take him something. Do not always
take from him.
Never try to teach others. Tell stories and glories,
and learn from each other.
One touch of the Divine Mother’s Sword [cutting away
ignorance] gives liberation.
It is best to keep silence or to say few words. There
should be no argument, no discussion. Go to the guru and sit silently.
Keep mentally alert, be open minded, this leads the
soul to God.
Say what you think. If you are wrong you will get a
scolding. Never mind.
The guru can know all about the chela if he wants.
We are all prisoners, let us be happy together.
Satsang [prayer service or spiritual gathering] is to gather together.
