Swami Shivapadananda on thinking and behaving like the Guru
DAILY READINGS
Taken from Mother Radha’s
notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Day 321
We must maintain brahmacharya [at its lowest – continence, celibacy. At
it highest – constant awareness of God] in thought, word and deed. Criticism of others
breaks it. Only your sincerity is important. Watch your mind, not other’s
minds.
We want the rose but not the thorns. Put both aside and discover what is
behind.
Worship the [higher] Self in Him. In Bhakti Yoga [the Yoga of devotion] the
sannyasi is married to God.
I must give myself and my selfishness to the guru [spiritual Preceptor].
Spiritual love is to give without any thought of return. Go to the guru with
your heart in your hand.
Be a prism [pictured] – focus your mind.[The prism refracts or bends, light].
Every experience is new. Love without expectation, this is the most
painful of all.
The guru’s life is made light or heavy by the disciple. Say to him: ‘You
carry the others, I will walk.’
Do 10 or 12 malas [rounds on rosary or prayer beads] of the guru mantra per day
and there will be peace all round. Pray, pray, pray, thus you protect the guru.
Love all, but adore the guru.
Do you want to fight? No. Think: ‘How would my guru react?’
Listen, and you will hear the guru speak all the time. It is a beautiful
thing. It brings peace and fearlessness.
