Daily Reading 23. Swamiji speaks on the momentous advent of Sri Ramakrishna.

The Advent of Sri Ramakrishna:
Swamiji: The birth of Sri Ramakrishna ushered in a new age, and though the scriptures say that this [present one] is the Kali Yuga [Dark Age], Swami Vivekananda stated that the Satya Yuga started with Master’s advent. In Satya Yuga people will cultivate qualities that will make them sattvic. For example, by practising truthfulness. That is why they say ‘Sat‘ Yuga.

The Kali Yuga is an age that is ruled by time, or ‘iron’. The day Sri Ramakrishna Bhagavan was born, from that day, the people of the world became conscious of God. Hence, he [Swami Vivekananda] said that Sri Ramakrishna is ‘Sat’, Truth.

Sri Ramakrishna had that sattvic quality, and people who make him their model will practise spiritual sadhana and thus their lives will become a blessing. In this Yuga the Incarnation of God, Sri Ramakrishna, appeared as an ordinary being. Apparently, he had no education, though he knew how to sign his name and he copied [text] from some books. But in reality he was not a person of academic standing. He was a unique manifestation of God. Universality personified.

When other religious leaders came into this world, they seemed to be somehow ‘one-sided’. Although that one-sidedness may have been made by their disciples or the devotees.
