Talks Excerpt 267. Swamiji says that spiritual life is like walking on a razor’s edge.

From Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Love itself is the fire that burns everything, and love itself is all that is left – that which is all purity, gentleness and compassion.
This is a difficult path, like walking on the edge of a razor. Even if I am laughing and jolly, I go inside and check up with my [Divine] Mother. I ask, ‘Is this alright?’ If I hear ‘Yes,’ then I carry on. I check up again and again and carry on.
The flame of life lies in the heart of each second.
Fighting is all ego. Stop fighting and start loving.
To a wandering monk the saint said, ‘Stop wandering now. Take up your begging bowl and ask God to fill it.’
Suffering? God pays all.
God’s Grace is of two kinds, one is in the teachers who teach after they have realised God, and the other is in the ordinary devotee who just realises God for himself.
Repeat the guru mantra every morning and evening, feeling that the deity [Ishta devata] is in the heart. After that you can change the mantra, but think of the same deity.
Pray thus: ‘O God, if you exist, reveal yourself to me.’ Recognise Him when He comes. Ask with sincerity. Offer the fruit of sadhana [spiritual practise] to Him.
At all times repeat the mantra. All the time I am with Shiva. There, I am holding his feet. I speak to you and then I return to his feet.
Surrender and demand. A child has no ego. If you have given the mind to God, how can you think? The gunas [three pairs of opposites] perform all actions.
If you say, ‘I am the doer,’ it is ego. I am not the ego.
