Talks Excerpt 386. Swamiji asks what our goal is in life.

From Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
If you are divine then what you see is good, what you do is good. When you consciously turn the mind towards God, towards the mantra, you become more divine.
If you are in a dark room and it is suddenly flooded with light, what happens? Devotee: You see . . . Swamiji: No, you are blinded by the light. So it is with the guru sometimes.
On the spiritual path one is often beset with ill health, lack of money and so on. These obstacles come.
Always remember: What is our goal in life? To be good and to do good. There must be purity in thought, word and deed.
Watch anger arise. Do not suppress it but do not let it out on spiritual things – for example on Sri Ramakrishna or the guru.
See the guru in all.
Inner power makes it possible to understand, to speak, to hear etc. Stay in that. That is remembrance.
Whilst breathing, deliberate on breathing. Whilst doing, deliberate on action. Whilst walking, examine movement. This churning should be constant. Discovery of self-observation, of self-awareness, is churning.
What do we need? Constant practise, detachment and guilelessness. Be like a child.

These recordings or the excerpts from them, were made from the early 1970s onward, by Mother Radha, a close devotee of Swamiji’s and edited for uploading here by our gurubhai and her son, Brother Tim. Please be mindful that what Swamiji was saying may have been specific to an individual or a group of people with him, at the time.
