Talks Excerpt 541. Swamiji says that silence can speak more loudly than words.

From Mother Radha’s recordings of Swamiji.
[Swamiji continues speaking about Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi].
. . Holy Mother accepted her [Sister Nivedita], even at the risk of being rejected by the so-called orthodox, learned people.
I ask you again and again: Can you become like this? Yes you can. I swear you can. But surrender to her [Mother], not only in thought, in word and in deed, but in your very heart.
When you find somebody speaking ill of the Holy Mother, think about what she would have said. When you find somebody speaking about the negative qualities of others, think what Sri Sarada Devi would have said. If you cannot say anything, then your purity, in the form of silence, will sooner or later bathe the person next to you.
When Girish [Chandra Ghosh, the famous Bengali playwright] came to Sri Ramakrishna he thought that he was a sinner. Many politicians who came to Sri Sarada Devi thought they were sinners. But she only saw in them a saint in disguise. Slowly, without preaching, she cooked for them and converted their way of life; transformed their very lives. She transformed their lives for the highest service.
Each of the direct disciples of Sri Ramakrishna would not have been so, had it not been for the Holy Mother. If Sri Ramakrishna purified the outside and the intellect, she purified the very heart – by cooking the food with her own hands and serving it, so that it would permeate even the marrow of that person.
It is this Shakti which we worship as Kanyakumari, which we worship as Kali and as Durga. It is this Shakti that has come in the form of ‘my husband’ and ‘my wife’.
My prayer is: ‘O Divine Mother, you have deluded me a long time with your deluding power, for you enjoy playing. Now I am tired. I want to come home. I want to come home, Ma. Take this away. I am tired of this name and fame. I am tired. I want you and you alone, Ma. Draw the curtain, I want to come home to you for I am tired.’
God bless you. God speed. May you know that you have Sri Sarada Devi.
