Talks Excerpt 613. Swamiji says: We’re not doing this sadhana for pleasure. We’re here on the advice of the great spiritual scientists: Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda.

From Mother Radha’s recordings of Swamiji.
[At a Spiritual Retreat/Yoga Camp]:
Now in this camp you are here to strive for God. And how do you get the idea of striving for God? Sri Ramakrishna said, ‘In Kali Yuga even if a man can go into solitude for three or four days and cry for God, he is sure to get God.’ Yearn for God. God is very sure to reveal Himself to you. Increase your Japam and meditate.
We are not doing this sadhana for pleasure. We are here on the advice of the great spiritual scientists: Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda.
When you go from here, carry this strength of spirituality, carry this strength of love, carry the strength that will reveal to others that you have been to a spiritual divine ocean where you have had a dip in the ocean of Satchidananda – Existence Knowledge Bliss Absolute – concretised in Sri Ramakrishna.
We should remember that when we go to a Yoga Camp our lives should become simpler, they must become purer, we must have character, character which is rooted in principle, rooted in our dharma, purity within and without, purity in thought, word and deed.
A sadhaka, after realisation, does not turn into a hard-hearted being. Rather, he becomes full of compassion and serves the whole universe. After he has realised the truth he does not go about saying, ‘Ah, all this is maya so give it up.’ Those who say this, are those who have not realised the truth. You must also remember that a jivan mukta serves the world. He is not a lazy person.

These recordings or the excerpts from them, were made from the early 1970s onward, by Mother Radha, a close devotee of Swamiji’s and edited for uploading here by our gurubhai and her son, Brother Tim. Please be mindful that what Swamiji was saying may have been specific to an individual or a group of people with him, at the time.
