Swami Shivapadananda with spiritual steps
DAILY READINGS
Taken from Mother Radha’s
notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Day 269
Think like this: “The guru is the pilot of my plane.” Surrender to him
and let him do the flying.
In the silence I will know myself.
God acts, ego reacts.
Live every second as it comes, then there is no tension.
Do you want peace? Pray to God thus: “I want nothing that is thine, I
only want what is mine.”
Strength to serve all comes from God, so serve with love, and
friendliness, and never hurt.
In meditation go with the tide. When the tide is high, go, go, go.
Think, ‘This is God’s house, God’s car, God’s family. I am only the
witness.’ The gunas [pairs of opposites] do all the actions, there is no free will.
Krishna says, ‘To overcome the gunas take refuge in me.’
In a ceremony the kalsa [coconut] represents God. Each one has a deity
seated in his heart, the kalsa represents that deity to you. The durva grass is
knowledge, the wealth of knowledge, health and so on. Thus we are asking God to
give us all these things. Just as he looks after the grass, he will care for
us. May we be under His feet, and just as grass finds itself there, let us be
so humble.
Why does the deity not show itself to us? Because we do not call
properly. Think how Sri Ramakrishna called Mother Kali, how Saint Francis called
Christ. Sri Ramakrishna called, ‘I want to hear your voice Ma [Divine Mother, Kali], I want to see
you Ma with my eyes open. Let me sing your glories and stories Ma.’
