Swami Shivapadananda: Where to focus your meditation

Day 371

 

The mantra [sacred word, sound-syllable or God’s
names] is perfect. It has all power, it gives you all that is necessary, it is complete
in itself. What is the need for books and so on? Repeat the mantra all the time
– or think: ‘I am not the body, not the mind, I am pure Spirit.’ In one year
you will have great visions. You will be inspired by what you see inside.

 

Devotee: I do not know where to concentrate when I
repeat the mantra.

Swamiji: Close the eyes. Where does the mind rest?

Devotee: Between the eyes.

Swamiji: Then that is the natural place for you to
focus your attention. Link the mantra with the breath and visualise the Deity –
the Ishta Devata [chosen Ideal] – between the eyes.

 

You must get up before 5 a.m. if you are not able get
up at 4a.m.

 

May the mind become still, stiller, stillest. That is
why you imitate the Guru [spiritual Preceptor], so that later on no one can
point a finger at him through you. Only when you have taken all the punishment
are you fit to be the dust of his feet – because he carries not only his cross,
but yours too.

 

Ma [the Divine Mother] controls me inside. She does
what She wants. I cannot control it.

 

We must have devotion and guru-seva [service to the
Guru]. Must. Only he is great who enables me to see the greatness of the guru.
A great man never says, ‘I am great,’ or ‘I am humble,’ because he knows that
all is done by Him.

 

Every kick you get is the grace of your guru, is a
blessing.
