Talks Excerpt 290. Swamiji says all must suffer. Be patient and bear it.

From Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Leave other people to do what they like, how they like. It is their business. And do not gossip. If someone gossips to you rather say, ‘Look brother, tell me something good about that person, or talk about God.’
We are here to learn to love. This is the purpose of sadhana – to practise loving. With love you attain all.
All must suffer. Be patient and bear it.
If someone praises me, I think: ‘O Ma, this is for you.’
You must see Her in all the practices, all the time. Think: ‘This is your body, Ma. I am not the doer, I am pure Spirit. These are your feet, your hands, your eyes, Ma.’
Meditation must happen if you keep on purifying your mind, and discriminating.
You get irritated? That is not loving. Something is wrong. Look within (in your mind) and see what is wrong. Be upset with Mother. Say to Her, ‘Ma, this is all you, in the mask of jealousy, hatred and so on. But I do not want you in this way, Ma. I see through you (your divine play). You keep it (vices like jealousy etc), you take it. Bring me to the other side, Ma. (Take me across this ocean of worldly existence.)’
When you become a sannyasi what do you want? Nothing. Do you want heaven? Hell? Powers? No, nothing.
When you get [psychic] powers [siddhis] and begin to use them, for example, reading the thoughts of others, making people come to see you, and so on, you lose everything. Throw those things out.

These recordings or the excerpts from them, were made from the early 1970s onward, by Mother Radha, a close devotee of Swamiji’s and edited for uploading here by our gurubhai and her son, Brother Tim. Please be mindful that what Swamiji was saying may have been specific to an individual or a group of people with him, at the time.
