Talks Excerpt 345: Swamiji says, ‘Outsiders’ sometimes do more than insiders.

From Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Though some of the devotees are outside the fold, yet they do more work than those in the fold. That is what Christ meant when he said, ‘Some of my flock are outside my fold.’
You must have faith in your own Self, in God. Doubts destroy faith and take you away from God.
Guru cannot do it for you, he can only tell you. And though he takes your sins during initiation, after that you take your own – because now you know how to carry them yourself.
Purity – in thought, word and deed – takes you beyond good and bad to a state of equilibrium, sattva. All these qualities must be inner and outer – word and spirit. For this we need patience and perseverance.
If I am searching here, there and everywhere, this is doubt, not sincerity. That happiness you seek is not outside. So go inside (within your heart). Books, words, philosophy, are no good. The only knowledge that is of any good is: ‘All is Brahman. I am That.’
When I go inside, I find my [Divine] Mother sitting there, and I sit at Her feet. At other times She is not there and I am not there. Later the world and I come back to Mother. The heart is the only place I do know, because that is where I am always sitting at Her feet.
Talk does no good. Gossip is not good. So let us say gently, ‘That is not spiritual talk, let us try to talk of something else.’ Otherwise get up, move away, do something else.
If you love the guru, offer all to him, but make sure it is good. In the world do what has to be done and do it perfectly, then forget about it. As you work, keep going inside.

These recordings or the excerpts from them, were made from the early 1970s onward, by Mother Radha, a close devotee of Swamiji’s and edited for uploading here by our gurubhai and her son, Brother Tim.
