Talks Excerpt 365. Swamiji says: Be like ‘M’ – who obeyed the Master’s instructions without question.

From Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Who is the guru? The body? Yet when the body is dead it stinks. Will you give it flowers then? Why not? What is the difference? Find out. Then you will discover that the guru is in all.
When you really love the guru, and when he says, ‘Follow Me,’ you will just follow. You will never tell anyone.
Be like ‘M’, [Mahendranath Gupta, who was the recorder of The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna] who obeyed the Master’s [Sri Ramakrishna‘s] instructions without question.
Jesus said to his disciple: ‘Follow Me’ and he did. He did not tell his wife and children and so on. When you are prepared, when preparation is made, when you are pure, sincere, this is what happens.
Devotee: I know what you say is true, Swamiji, but it seems incredible. Swamiji: You will see, you will see. But now we just cling to the world and worldly things.
Do not cry for the world, cry because you cannot see your guru in front of you. You must have great devotion to the guru; he does everything for you.
If my sister goes to the guru and I am jealous, is that love? We must at least pray, ‘O Ma, I have not an atom of divine love in me. Teach me, guide me, open my heart, let me learn what real love is.’
If the guru says, ‘Jump into the sea,’ will you? Do you have that faith? Or will you stand and ask why?
If we can worship God in a stone image, why not in man?
Some devotees are always in my mind. This shows their great purity. Their minds must be one-pointed, turned this way, otherwise they would not be here.
Purity is like the fragrance of the flower you offer to God. If the fragrance is not there, the other smell is not nice.

These recordings or the excerpts from them, were made from the early 1970s onward, by Mother Radha, a close devotee of Swamiji’s and edited for uploading here by our gurubhai and her son, Brother Tim. Please be mindful that what Swamiji was saying may have been specific to an individual or a group of people with him, at the time.
