What do you come to give your guru? [spiritual preceptor] The dirt, that's what you can give your guru: dirt. He is a dirt-man. You can't give your guru anything but dirt. That excreta proved it by saying, 'Don't touch me because you are lower than me. The highest amongst you – the king – touched me, now look at my condition. If you, a mere beggar touches me what will be my position?'
That's humility now. If you've got it you'll know. If you haven't got it, who cares.
Don't pride yourself for doing guru's work – that is what it is. It may sound very silly but this is scripture that I am telling you. I also felt like that sometimes. I used to pride myself about guru's work but when this story was told to me I thought, 'Well, how true.'
Humble. Feel humble. Feel, 'What can I give you Lord?' That is why Sri Ramakrishna said, 'As long as I live I learn.' Implying: as long as I live I am limited or I am not unlimited. If I say 'I live,' people think: the body. 'As long as I live,' he said. As long as there is I-consciousness you have to be a learner. Because it is not the Absolute yet.
Talk about complete surrender. As long as there is the I, where is the surrender? Still holding on to the 'I'. I have told this story so many times because I like it. It reminds me of myself. With love, with humility, with sincerity, go about doing His work.
