Talk Excerpt 342. Swamiji: From time to time check which nostril you are breathing out of.

From Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
God speaks all the time but when the mind is active, we cannot hear Him. When the mind is still, we hear Him all the time.
Do not get too close to the guru [attached to the physical form?] otherwise you cannot see your own path.
We need obedience, humility, surrender, purification. There is no separate existence from the guru, always think you are part of him, linked with him. Make yourself empty so that the guru’s power enters your heart and mind.
A spiritual man radiates spiritual fragrance, which permeates and cleanses the air.
A guru reaches people through dreams, sleep, silence – but not unless and until you allow yourself to receive him. How? By making the mind vacant, by sitting quietly and meditating.
Do whatever the guru asks. See it as divine, and do it.
The guru-disciple relationship is very complex. It is human and impersonal. Guru is the father, mother, lover, friend, master. With the guru all these coalesce into one; and he becomes the centre of all your emotions.
From time to time check which nostril you are breathing out of. Do this by breathing on to the palm of your hand. If it is more from the right nostril, it is okay, if from the left, not so good.
Rely on yourself, not on me.
Realise now. Why wait?
Sing till the concentration comes. Then meditate.
Think of God all the time.

These recordings or the excerpts from them, were made from the early 1970s onward, by Mother Radha, a close devotee of Swamiji’s and edited for uploading here by our gurubhai and her son, Brother Tim. Please be mindful that what Swamiji was saying may have been specific to an individual or a group of people with him, at the time.
