Talks Excerpt 341. Swamiji: Be a host to God and take happiness and unhappiness as your guests.

From Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Om is God with form, formless and beyond.
The mantra takes you from one state of consciousness to another, until you merge in That. When the guru gives you the mantra the guru’s power awakens you on three levels: verbally, mentally and inside (spiritually).
You must meditate all the time. Begin with the ishta, the original one, and let it develop into the formless, then go back to the form, in a circle. Eventually they both merge into the One.
Manifest love. Always think, ‘Yes, I am all love, I am manifesting love all the time.’ Then you will manifest it, you will become it. In time you will lose consciousness of it and become all three:
Dualism: I and Thee. Qualified non-dualism: A cell in the body of God, part of God. Advaita: God and I are One. This is samadhi.
We are in samadhi all the time. It is only a plane of consciousness in which ego is retained or is gone.
The ego can only be transformed by suffering. Give the best to the guru and keep the rest yourself. Worship all as your child. Thought, word and deed must be united. That is it.
Sing kirtans or holy songs, try to awaken the sleeping gods. Try it.
In meditation the key is relaxation. Hear the waves. Watch this wave all the time at the back of your mind. See it flowing in smoothly.
Think: humbleness, forgiveness, sincerity, love, compassion, truth, silence.
Be a host to God and take happiness and unhappiness as your guests. Act with this in mind. Treat the pairs of opposites [gunas] as the same. That is progress, that is devotion.
React only with compassion and love. Then you know you are learning.
