Talks Excerpt 274. Swamiji says we can’t judge our own spiritual progress.

From Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
Chant His [God’s/the Ishta Devata’s] name with love. Remember God with love. Meditate with love. We need faith, devotion and love of God.
Think: What are you? Where did you come from? Where are you going? What is God? How is God attained?
You will get the greatest happiness from a disciplined life, a life of working, eating and resting.
Do not let my words go in vain, I beg you from the bottom of my heart.
Control the mind and get the strength to carry on. When there is inner peace and outer calmness, then all dealings are free from anxiety.
You, the Self, are more important than the Swami.
The ‘Rogue’ [God, who steals your heart] is hiding within you. Light the lamp within and see. Discover the treasure within.
See how and why you are as you are. Correct yourself and not others. If it hurts, good. Smash the ego. If you feel proud, offer it at His feet.
Devotee: Please will you give us your blessings on this work? Swamiji: Yes. But it was gossip that spoiled it before. If you must find fault, find it in yourself. Seeing faults in others, is only ignorance. It is because you do not know the Truth.
We can never judge our own progress because we feel the same. It’s like if you tell a child: ‘Oh, you have grown.’ And the child says, ‘Oh no, I am just the same.’ So growth is within us and we can be making great progress.
Rajas or passion makes you thirsty for pleasure and possessions. It binds you to hunger for action. Rajas enslaves the doer by greed, heat of action, eager enterprise, restlessness and desire. Pain is its fruit.
