Talks Excerpt 308. Swamiji: Make the Divine Mother come alive. She has been an image too long.

From Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
In spiritual life you cannot avoid a problem, face it, get it over with, it is not so bad.
Devotee: During the satsang anger arose . . .
Swamiji: That anger has been there for untold ages and must come out. As you fill up with clear water, the muddy water must come out. Give it to [the Divine] Mother. Devotee: Can I, Swamiji?
Swamiji: Yes, give it all to Her, thought and mind. As pure thought is put in, the Kundalini rises. There is nothing to stop you. If there are low thoughts, the Kundalini cannot rise, it is held down.
Devotee: If Mother is the Ishtam [Ishta Devi – Chosen Ideal or Deity], can we make Her do all actions?
Swamiji: Yes, make Her come alive. She has been an image too long. That is why we use the guru within us, because he is already living, and we have seen him.
Brahman, God, is like a large chunk of magnetic iron, which has a power in it that we cannot see, and which is manifest only when metal is put near it. No matter how long it has been idle it must manifest near iron.
Electricity has no power unless we switch it on. Pray to Her: ‘Ma, give us the strength to switch it on.’
Ma Kali destroys ignorance, evil tendencies, animal passions. Ma Lakshmi sustains us in our spiritual seeking, sustains the power we now have. Ma Saraswati is knowledge.
I just give myself to Mother. Sometimes I just say, ‘Ma, let’s do it this way,’ and She does. Or sometimes She does it Her way.
People say they understand me, but do they? From their actions, it does not look like it.
