Talks Excerpt 312. Swamiji: You are all gods. But you are like islands, you do not know you are all joined together deep under the water.

From Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
The foundation of spiritual eyes, the eyes of the spirit, are the ethical and moral laws [yama and niyama]. Be good, do good. Stake your life, your name and fame to become good. To become bad is easy, just one stone thrown at the neighbour’s house. But to be good you must persist. Be truthful, be loving.
Yama and niyama (codes of good conduct) are essential. If you are not practising celibacy, brahmacharya, and non-injury, then when you try to get God you cannot, because even if you reach God-realisation, you will not recognise it, you are blind.
Diwali is light, sight – yama and niyama. Let us study the interior of the heart with the light-giving, soul-revealing light of yama and niyama. From this comes the strength to dispel darkness. You are heroes only when you live the teachings of the Great Ones.
As you think so you become. Do you choose God? Or are you weak and evil? Diwali is lighting the temple of the heart with virtues, and then seeing the great glory of the Soul within – Mahalakshmi.
Practise wins the favour of God, but first you must win the favour of your own mind. Only then will you find it easy to win God’s grace. You are all one, you are all gods. But you are like islands, you do not know you are all joined together deep under the water.
We are One, Satchidananda. In all conditions, all circumstances, I am Bliss Absolute, Knowledge Absolute, Existence Absolute.
