Swami Shivapadananda says, ‘All happens in, with, and through love.’
They are one and the same. They are like the two wings on the hamsa (swan) or the paramahamsa (great or supreme swan – but actually referring to an enlightened being). Without the two wings, the bird cannot fly.
How can you love that which you know nothing about? And how can you know, without love? Swamiji asks.
This audio clip requires us to find a quiet place, pop on some headphones or earbuds if we have them, sit comfortably, close eyes and listen. These are profound thoughts on the nature of love.
For non-speakers of isiZulu (the language of the Zulu-speaking people of South Africa), when Swamiji teasingly calls it an Afrikaans word towards the end of the clip, 'Angazi' means, in isiZulu, 'I don't know.' The listeners in the shrine understand what Swamiji is saying and find it particularly funny that he's humorously putting the word into God's mouth – but with a purpose.
