Talks Excerpt 273. Swamiji says renunciation is first and foremost, mental.

From Mother Radha’s notes, written at Swamiji’s feet.
To seek the Truth we have to meditate, renounce the world, and abandon all the tendencies of the mind. Renounce what is in the world. Renounce mentally first.
God is only captured when He is pleased with selfless love. This captivates Him.
What binds man and woman? Not possessions, but ‘mine’ and ‘thine,’ and the feeling of pleasure and pain called duality. The root of all pain and sorrow is ignorance.
Only the guru’s power is enough to awaken spiritual knowledge.
God and His name are indivisible [naam and rup]. The name and form are Him – thus it is the same.
Dhyana [meditation] is the most potent method of returning to the Divine Self. It is the only means to control the scattered mental tendencies. Each drop adds up to make an ocean of peace. Perceive that you are pervaded by God. He is on all sides [omnipresent]. Worship is to see Him on all sides.
If your mind is completely steady you are an emperor. But we must control the mind and become Mahadeva.
Whilst the uncontrolled mind remains, there are chains, desires. Control the senses then you will have peace.
Be calm. Do not disturb others. Scolding others disturbs the mind. This is the greatest yajna (sacrifice).
The more you sit [in sadhana] still, the steadier the mind becomes.
Food is Brahman. Take it with love and contentment as a medicine to nourish the body, to gain strength. Live in the awareness of the inner Self, limit the food, restrain the senses.
To love many is your greatest wealth. Love is the guru. Love is a great quality. Renounce all else.
